SAVE Endorsement QUESTIONNAIRES: For Candidates
APPLICATION FOR ENDORSEMENT*
a. The SAVE Endorsement Process begins with the Qualifying Date. Based on the calendar set by the County Supervisor of Elections, only qualified candidates are eligible to apply for a SAVE endorsement. The endorsement process is triggered only upon a candidate's qualification for election.
b. After the Qualifying Date, SAVE Staff will automatically notify qualified candidates of the timeline for accepting questionnaires, which function as the application for endorsement. Candidates seeking endorsement through the standard process must complete the full questionnaire. Questionnaires are only provided to qualified candidates and not before.
c. Candidates who are not eligible for, or selected through, the SAVE Selects or Abridged Endorsement Processes will be evaluated through the standard endorsement process. This process applies to new candidates and candidates who do not otherwise qualify for an alternative review process.
d. Completed questionnaires are reviewed by the Community Endorsement Panel, and the Endorsement Committee. Evaluations are based on a candidate's record regarding LGBTQ+ issues, electoral viability, and alignment with SAVE's mission, priorities, and values.
e. Candidates will participate in an interview conducted by the Community Endorsement Panel. The same panel members must participate in interviews for all candidates seeking the same office. The panel will also review publicly available information and candidate records as part of its evaluation.
f. If the Community Endorsement Panel recommends a candidate for endorsement, the recommendation is forwarded to the Endorsement Committee for review. The Endorsement Committee must vote by simple majority to concur with the recommendation.
g. Recommendations approved by the Endorsement Committee are forwarded to the SAVE Board of Directors. The Board may concur with the recommendation by simple majority vote or return the recommendation to the Community Endorsement Panel and/or Endorsement Committee for further review and consideration.

*SAVE staff may not be able to individually meet with every candidate; however, if you have specific questions you are welcome to contact either our Executive Director or Field Director. It should be noted that staff cannot vote on endorsements and therefore have no direct say in who will or will not receive the endorsement.
*SAVE reserves the right to choose which races will or will not receive applications for endorsement. That determination is based on its assessment of the race, its impact on our priorities and whether candidates have the potential to earn the endorsement.
